The best Bluetooth label makers

The Brother CUBE Plus is the best Bluetooth label maker for durable laminated labels. The Nelko P21 and NIIMBOT D110 are the cheap thermal options, and the PT-N25BT adds a keyboard to the app.

Questions this page answers

App or built-in keyboard?

A keyboard is faster for one label. An app is better for fonts and icons, and for long runs. Some business models do both.

Batteries or rechargeable?

Keyboard handhelds often run on batteries with an optional adapter. App models tend to be rechargeable.

Why does it waste tape at the start of every label?

Most label makers feed a short leader before printing. Printing several labels in one run wastes less.

Before you pick one

What the app can and cannot fix

An app makes fonts and icons easy, and long runs too, but it cannot make thermal paper weatherproof or a 12 mm label read from across a room. Decide the label first, tape or thermal and how wide, then pick the app machine that prints it.

Tape or thermal

Brother's Bluetooth models print on tape cassettes; Nelko and NIIMBOT print on thermal label rolls. Tape lasts longer; thermal costs less to run.

Apps matter

You will live in the app, so check its reviews and the permissions it asks for before buying an app-only machine.

Keyboard as backup

The PT-N25BT and PT-D610BT have keyboards too, so a dead phone battery does not stop you.

Quick questions

  1. Do Bluetooth label makers work offline?

The app usually runs on your phone without internet once installed.

  2. Are app-only label makers slower?

For a single label, yes; for batches, they are faster.

  3. Can I print emojis and icons?

Most label apps include icons, and thermal printers can print images.

  4. Do Bluetooth label makers need charging?

Most are rechargeable; the PT-N25BT runs on AAA batteries or an adapter.
